CREATE A COACHING GROUP
The retirement home I mentioned was a coaching group for me, but I was the only storyteller being critiqued. You should also create (or join) a coaching group that includes other storytellers wanting to develop their skills. This could be people from only one organization, or it could include others as well. There may already be a storytelling guild in your area. They would be pleased if you decided to join them.
If you start a coaching group, it is important to set guidelines that control the amount of criticism given. Here are tips I picked up from my good friend Don Falkos, a storytelling coach from Madison, Wisconsin. He uses levels A, B, C, D when he coaches—Attending, Bravos, Clarifications, Direction.
